TRAFFIC ALERT FOR WEEK OF NOVEMBER 23 - 27, 2009
Highway work zones in the Staunton District

The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY
Interstate 64

Primary Roads
* (NEW) Various roads – Litter and debris removal, Monday to Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesday, 8 a.m. to noon.

Secondary Roads
* (NEW) Route 616 – Paving at intersection of Route 696 to 1 mile west of Route 696. Lane closures with pilot truck and flaggers, Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
* (NEW) Various roads – Litter and debris removal, Monday to Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesday, 8 a.m. to noon.

BATH COUNTY

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY
Interstate 64
* Mile marker 49 to 44, westbound – Shoulder stone and guardrail installation. Alternating lane closures, Monday to Tuesday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Wednesday, 6 a.m. to noon; and Friday noon to 6 p.m. Stationary traffic control.
* Mile marker 56 to 50, westbound – Shoulder stone and guardrail installation. Alternating lane closures, Monday to Tuesday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Wednesday, 6 a.m. to noon; and Friday noon to 6 p.m. Stationary traffic control.

Interstate 81
* (NEW) Mile marker 188.3, northbound – Paving. Right lane closed, Monday night, 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.
* (NEW) Mile marker 195.6 to 202.5, northbound – Truck climbing lane project. Expect periodic overnight lane closures. Estimated completion fall 2012.
* Various locations – Mobile operations for patching potholes. Tuesday night, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Primary Roads
* Route 130 (Glasgow) – Bridge construction at Route 501 intersection. Monday to Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday, 7 a.m. to noon. Estimated completion is September 2010.

Secondary Roads
* (NEW) Route 689 (Buck Hill Road) – Pipe replacement from 0.25 mile south of Route 608 (Forge Road) to 0.75 mile east of Route 11 of Route 11 (South Lee Highway). Road closed, Dec. 1, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes.
* Various roads – Brush cutting, debris removal and tree clean-up. Single-lane traffic, flagger traffic control, Monday to Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesday, 8 a.m. to noon.
* Various roads – Grading dirt road.

AUGUSTA COUNTY
Interstate 64

Interstate 81
* Various locations – Mobile operations for patching potholes. Tuesday night, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Primary Roads
* Churchville Avenue (Route 250, Staunton), eastbound – Road reconstruction activities. The eastbound lane will be closed from North Augusta Street (Route 11) to Albemarle Avenue. Eastbound lane closed 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week. Westbound lane opens to traffic during construction. Speed limit in the project area reduced to 25 miles-per-hour. No work will occur from noon, Nov. 25 through Nov. 29. Work will resume at 7:30 a.m., Nov. 30. Four recommended detours for eastbound Churchville Avenue traffic heading into Staunton business district from Route 262/Route 250 interchange are to North Augusta Street:
• Take Route 250 and turn right onto Grubert Avenue and then turning left onto West Beverly Street, which intersects with North Augusta Street.
• Take Route 250 and turn right onto Thornrose Avenue and then turning left on to West Beverly Street, which intersects with North Augusta Street.
• Take Churchville Avenue and turn left onto Springhill Road to Route 262.  Turn right onto Route 262 north to the Route 11 intersection.  Turn right onto Route 11 and take Route 11 bypass (Commerce Road) into Staunton.
• At the Route 262/Route 250 interchange – take Route 262 north to the Route 11 intersection.  Turn right onto Route 11 and take Route 11 bypass (Commerce Road) into Staunton.   
* Route 250 – Paving from Route 720 to Route 736, Monday.
* Route 276 – Lane closure at Rockingham/Augusta county line for bridge work. Traffic controlled by flaggers, Monday to Tuesday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday, 7 a.m. to noon.
* Route 340 (Waynesboro) – Construction from Route 250 to Delphine Avenue for railroad bridge replacement and roadway widening. Delphine Avenue is closed to thru traffic between Main Street (Route 250) and Hopeman Parkway. Delphine Avenue is open to local traffic only between Main Street (Route 250) and Seventh Street, and between Hopeman Parkway and Sixth Street. Detours are posted. No work will occur from noon, Nov. 25 to noon, Nov. 27 and all day, Nov. 29. Estimated date of road opening is January 8, 2010.

Secondary Roads
* Route 622 – Shoulder repairs around bridge from Waynesboro City limits to Route 950, Monday to Wednesday.
* Route 694 – Road construction from Route 693 (Bethel Green Road) to Route 695 (Arborhill Road), Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. No work will be performed Nov. 23 to 29. Estimated completion is Dec. 18.
* Route 746 – Tree removal from Route 616 to Route 804. Road closed Monday to Tuesday.
* Route 774, northbound and southbound (Cline River Road, New Hope) – Bridge over Middle River. Bridge replacement activities between Route 608 (Battlefield Road) and Route 775 (Craig Shop Road). Road closed. Estimated completion is Dec. 15. No work will occur from noon, Nov. 25 to noon, Nov. 27 and all day, Nov. 29. Detour provided.
* Various roads – Brush cutting and clearing with boom axe, Monday to Tuesday. Signs will direct traffic.
* Various roads – Machining dirt roads, Monday to Tuesday.

HIGHLAND COUNTY

* Route 600 (Upper Back Creek) – Brush cutting from Route 84 to Route 250 with flaggers controlling traffic, Monday to Tuesday.
* Route 607 (Big Valley Road) – Ditching from intersection of 220 and 606, Monday to Tuesday. Flaggers controlling traffic.
* Various roads – Machining stabilized roads and patching pot holes. Traffic controlled by signs.

* Route 11 (North Valley Pike) – VMI Cadet March, Nov. 22, 7:30 a.m. to noon. Marching route from south Rockingham County line to north Rockingham County line and entering Town of New Market.
* (NEW) Route 42 (North Main Street, Broadway) – Christmas parade from the middle school on Route 1413 (Holly Hill Street to Route 259 east (Lee Street) to Route 42 south (Main Street) to Route 259 east (Broadway Avenue) ending at the firehouse. Road closed with flagger traffic control, Dec. 13, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
* Route 211 (New Market Road) – Cable installation from Route 960 (Water Wheel Road) to Shenandoah City limits. Right shoulder closure, Monday to Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday, 8 a.m. to noon.
* (NEW) Route 256 (Third Street, Grottoes) – Road work from Route 844 (Park Avenue) to Aspen Avenue. Right shoulder closure, Monday to Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday, 8 a.m. to noon.
* Route 276 – Lane closure at Rockingham/Augusta county line for bridge work. Traffic controlled by flaggers, Monday to Tuesday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday, 7 a.m. to noon.

* (NEW) Route 682 (Friedens Church Road) – Entrance and utility work from Route 950 (Walton Way) to the I-81 Interchange. Right shoulder closure, Monday to Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday, 8 a.m. to noon.
* Route 712 (West Mosby Road) – Overhead work from Route 712 (Harrisonburg City limits) to route 701 (Pike Church Road). Shoulder closure, Monday to Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday, 8 a.m. to noon.
* Route 726 (Erickson Avenue) – Road work from Route 33 (Rawley Pike) to Route 726 and Harrisonburg City Limits. Eastbound lane and shoulder closure, flagger traffic control. Monday to Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday, 8 a.m. to noon.
* Route 726 (Erickson Avenue) – Open cut from Route 1173 (Nutmeg Court) and Route 726 (Erickson Avenue). Intermittent lane closures and flagger traffic control, Monday to Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday, 8 a.m. to noon.
* Route 793 (Endless Caverns Road) – Intersection upgrade from Route 11 (North Valley Pike) to Route 620 (Mountain Valley Road). Right shoulder closure, Monday to Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday, 8 a.m. to noon.
* Route 867 (North River Road) – Entrance construction from Route 11 (Main Street) to Route 693 (Fairview Road). Right shoulder closure, Monday to Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday, 8 a.m. to noon.
* Route 981 (Rockingham. Pike) – Turn lane installation from Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) to Route 829 (Independent Road). Right shoulder closure, intermittent detour from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Work zone is Monday to Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday, 8 a.m. to noon. Detour in place; traffic may be detoured intermittently.
* Route 1204 (Ashby Street) Town of Dayton – Water line installation from Route 257 (Mason Street) to Thompson Street (Route 1209).  Single lane traffic, flagger traffic control. Monday to Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday, 8 a.m. to noon.

SHENANDOAH COUNTY
Interstate 81

Primary Roads
* Route 11 (Old Valley Pike, Maurertown) – Safety and drainage improvement work from just south of Diamond Valley entrance to just north of Route 654 (Zion Church Road). Drain, grade, asphalt and utilities. Daylight operations with varying lane closures. Traffic controlled by flaggers. Estimated completion is June 2010.

Secondary Roads
* Route T1003 (Cadet Road, New Market) – Water and sewer line work from Route 211, westbound to Route 1009 (Stuart Street). Portions of road closed to thru traffic. Estimated completion is late December.

FREDERICK COUNTY
