TRAFFIC ALERT FOR WEEK OF NOVEMBER 16 - 20, 2009
Highway work zones in the Staunton District

The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

Interstate 64  

No lane closures reported.

 

Primary Roads                                     

* Route 18 – Paving from mile marker 18.42 (Covington South City Limits) to mile marker 14.35 (intersection of Route 1211), Monday to Friday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Single lane closures with pilot truck and flaggers controlling traffic.

* (NEW) Various roads – Patching, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Mobile lane closures.

* Mile marker 49 to 44, westbound – Paving. Alternating lane closures, Monday to Friday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Stationary traffic control.

* Mile marker 56 to 50, westbound – Guardrail installation. Alternating lane closures, Monday to Friday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Stationary traffic control.

 

Interstate 81

* (NEW) Mile marker 200, northbound – Right shoulder closure for contractor drilling.

* Various locations – Mobile operations for patching potholes. Wednesday night, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 130 (Glasgow) – Bridge construction at Route 501. New traffic pattern. Periodic single-lane traffic with flagger traffic control, signs posted. Monday to Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday, 7 a.m. to noon. Use extreme caution as motorists become acquainted with new traffic pattern. Completion is in September 2010.

* (NEW) Various roads – Debris and tree clean-up, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Single lane traffic with flagger traffic control.

 

Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Various roads – Brush cutting, debris removal and tree clean-up.. Single-lane traffic, flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

* (NEW) Various roads – Cleaning drain pipes, dirt road grading.

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY 

Interstate 64

* Mile marker 95 to 99 eastbound and westbound – Bridge deck repairs, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday night to Friday morning

 

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 219.1, northbound and southbound – Bridge over Route 654. Bridge painting. Alternating lane closures, Sunday to Thursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

* (NEW) Mile marker 228, northbound and southbound – Bridge deck maintenance, bridges over Middle River.  Single lane closure Monday night through Friday morning, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily.

* Various locations – Bridge rail repair. Alternating lane closures, Monday night to Friday morning, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

* Various locations – Mobile operations for patching potholes. Wednesday – night work, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

 

Primary Roads

* Churchville Avenue (Route 250, Staunton), eastbound – Road reconstruction activities. The eastbound lane will be closed from North Augusta Street (Route 11) to Albemarle Avenue. Eastbound lane closed 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week. Westbound lane opens to traffic during construction. Four recommended detours for eastbound Churchville Avenue traffic heading into Staunton business district from Route 262/Route 250 interchange are to North Augusta Street:

  • Take Route 250 and turn right onto Grubert Avenue and then turning left onto West Beverly Street, which intersects with North Augusta Street.
  • Take Route 250 and turn right onto Thornrose Avenue and then turning left on to West Beverly Street, which intersects with North Augusta Street.
  • Take Churchville Avenue and turn left onto Springhill Road to Route 262.  Turn right onto Route 262 north to the Route 11 intersection.  Turn right onto Route 11 and take Route 11 bypass (Commerce Road) into Staunton.
  • At the Route 262/Route 250 interchange – take Route 262 north to the Route 11 intersection.  Turn right onto Route 11 and take Route 11 bypass (Commerce Road) into Staunton.  

* (NEW) Route 42 – Debris and dead animal removal. Mobile operations.

* (NEW) Route 250 – Debris and dead animal removal. Mobile operations.

* (NEW) Route 254 – Debris and dead animal removal. Mobile operations.

* (NEW) Route 262 – Debris and dead animal removal. Mobile operations.

* Route 262 (near Ingleside) – Road work from Route 11 to Route 262, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Construction at the intersection. Lane closures with traffic control by flaggers. Estimated completion is Nov.

* (NEW) Route 276 – Lane closure at Rockingham/Augusta county line for bridge work.

* Route 340 (Waynesboro) – Construction from Route 250 to Delphine Avenue for railroad bridge replacement and roadway widening. Delphine Avenue is closed to thru traffic between Main Street (Route 250) and Hopeman Parkway. Delphine Avenue is open to local traffic only between Main Street (Route 250) and Seventh Street, and between Hopeman Parkway and Sixth

Street. Detours are posted. Estimated date of road opening is January 8, 2010.

* Route 340 (East Side Highway) – Advanced warning flashing signal installation, southbound near Route 612 (Crimora Mine Road).  Estimated completion is late November.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 622 – Bridge construction. Causeway available for traffic. Traffic controlled with signs – stop and proceed when way is clear.  Work is from Waynesboro City limits to Route 950. Monday to Friday.

* (NEW) Route 693 – Patching from Route 701 to Route 662 Wednesday thru Friday. Traffic controlled by flaggers.

* Route 694 from Route 693 (Bethel Green Road) to Route 695 (Arborhill Road), road construction, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Estimated completion is Dec. 18.

* Route 722 – Bridge repairs over Whiskey Creek. Possible shoulder closure and single-lane traffic with flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday.

* Route 746 – Tree removal from Route 616 to Route 804. Road closed.

* Route 774, northbound and southbound (Cline River Road, New Hope) – Bridge over Middle River. Bridge replacement activities between Route 608 (Battlefield Road) and Route 775 (Craig Shop Road). Detour provided.

* (NEW) Route 775 – Machining non hard surface road from Route 900 to Route 865.

* Route 794 (Sangers Lane), eastbound and westbound – Bridge over Christians Creek, from Route 792 (Basley Road) to Route 642 (Barren Ridge Road). Bridge replacement. Road open to traffic with lanes controlled by flaggers. Estimated completion date is December 2009.

* (NEW) Route 9026 – Cleaning ditches at Route 701, Thursday and Friday. Traffic controlled by flaggers.

* Various roads Brush cutting and clearing with boom axe. Signs will direct traffic.

* Various roads – Machining dirt roads.

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

Primary Roads

* (NEW) Route 220 South – Litter pick-up on Jackson River Road from the intersection of Route 84 to the Bath County line.

* (NEW) Route 220 North – Litter pick-up on Potomac River Road from the intersection of Route 250 to the West Virginia line.

 

Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Route 600 (Upper Back Creek) – Brush cutting from Route 84 to Route 250 with flaggers controlling traffic.

 * (NEW) Route 607 (Big Valley Road) – Ditching from intersection of 220 and 606. Flaggers controlling traffic.

* Various roads – Machining stabilized roads and patching pot holes. Traffic controlled by signs.

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

Interstate 81

No lane closures reported.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 11 (North Valley Pike) – VMI Cadet March, Nov. 22, 7:30 a.m. to noon. Marching route from south Rockingham County line to north Rockingham County line and entering Town of New Market.

* Route 211 (New Market Road) – Cable installation from Route 960 (Water Wheel Road) to Shenandoah City limits. Right shoulder closure, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 276 – Lane closure at Rockingham/Augusta county line for bridge work.

* Route 340 (East Side Highway) – Advance warning flashing signal installation near Route 253/659 (Port Republic Road).  Estimated completion is late November.

* Route 712 (West Mosby Road) – Overhead work from Route 712 (Harrisonburg City limits) to route 701 (Pike Church Road). Shoulder closure, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Route 726 (Erickson Avenue) – Road work from Route 33 (Rawley Pike) to Route 726 and Harrisonburg City Limits. Eastbound lane and shoulder closure, flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Route 726 (Erickson Avenue) – Open cut from Route 1173 (Nutmeg Court) and Route 726 (Erickson Avenue). Intermittent lane closures and flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Route 793 (Endless Caverns Road) – Intersection upgrade from Route 11 (North Valley Pike) to Route 620 (Mountain Valley Road). Right shoulder closure, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Route 867 (North River Road) – Entrance construction from Route 11 (Main Street) to Route 693 (Fairview Road). Right shoulder closure, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Route 981 (Rockingham. Pike) – Turn lane installation from Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) to Route 829 (Independent Road). Right shoulder closure, Intermittent detour from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Work zone is Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Detour in place; traffic may be detoured intermittently.

* Route 1204 (Ashby Street) Town of Dayton – Water line installation from Route 257 (Mason Street) to Thompson Street (Route 1209).  Single lane traffic, flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

 

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 264 to 280, northbound and southbound – Bridge repairs with single lane closures, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday night to Friday morning. 

*Various locations, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, shoulder repairs, sign and fence repairs.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 11 (Old Valley Pike, Maurertown) – Safety and drainage improvement work. Drain, grade, asphalt and utilities. Traffic controlled by flaggers. Estimated completion is June 2010.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 623 (Coal Mine Road) – Bridge deck replacement located .04 mile north of Route 55 in Wheatfield area.  Road closed beginning Monday, Nov. 2 until late November.  Detour posted.

* Route T1003 (Cadet Road, New Market) – Water and sewer line work from Route 211, westbound to Route 1009 (Stuart Street). Portions of road closed to thru traffic. Estimated completion is late November.

* (NEW) Various roads – Scraping and brush cutting.

 

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

Interstate 81

* (NEW) Route 522 – Brush cutting and asphalt repair in Winchester area.
