TRAFFIC ALERT FOR WEEK OF JULY 13 – 17, 2009
Highway work zones in the Staunton District

The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY
Interstate 64
* Mile marker 0 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Mowing, litter and debris removal. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 250, westbound – Paving from Route 637 to Route 1427. Expect minor delays.
* Route 250 (Hankey Mount Highway) – Pipe replacement with box culvert from Route 720 to Route 736, Monday to Friday. Single-lane traffic, flagger traffic control.
* Route 340 (Waynesboro) – Construction from Route 250 to Delphine Avenue for railroad bridge replacement and roadway widening, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Expect minor delays from Broad Street to Sixth Street for construction work. Seventh Street closed from Winchester Avenue to Delphine Avenue, June 1 to Jan. 2010 for retaining wall construction. Estimated completion is Nov. 2011.

* Route 701 – Patching from Route 11 to Route 252. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Wednesday.
* Route 774, northbound and southbound (Cline River Road, New Hope) – Bridge over Middle River. Bridge replacement activities from Route 608 (Battlefield Road) to Route 775 (Craig Shop Road). Road closed from Mar. 30 to Nov. 13. Suggested detour: Northbound traffic take Route 608 to Route 778 (Knightly Mill Road) to Route 775 to Route 774. Southbound traffic take reverse of northbound detour.
* Route 794 (Sangers Lane), eastbound and westbound – Bridge over Christians Creek, from Route 792 (Basley Road) to Route 642 (Barren Ridge Road). Bridge replacement. Road closed, 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week, April 27 to Dec. 16. Suggested detour: Westbound traffic, take Route 792 south to Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) east to Route 642 north to Route 794. Eastbound traffic, take reverse of westbound detour.

* Route 211 (New Market Road) – Cable installation from Route 960 (Water Wheel Road) to Shenandoah City limits. Right shoulder closure, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
* Route 253 (Port Republic Road) – Sewer line installation from Route 704 (Osceola Springs Road) to Route 276 (Cross Keys Road). Westbound lane shoulder closure. Occasional single-lane traffic with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
* Route 257 (Mason Street, Dayton) – Entrance construction and directional bore from Route 1204 (Ashby Street) to Route 1203 (Westview Street). Westbound right lane closure.
* Route 259 (Brocks Gap Road) – Directional bore from Route 820 (Bergton Road) to West Virginia State line. Right shoulder closure, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Route 914 (Majestic View Road) – Slope and ditch work from Route 732 (Bank Church Road) to Route 734 (Coakley Town Road). Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Single-lane traffic, flagger traffic control.

* Route 340 (Jeremy’s Run) – Bridge work. Work hours will be from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. Flagger traffic control. Traffic has been rerouted to new bridge and approaches. Expect delays and use extreme caution while traveling through the work zone. The speed limit will remain 45 miles per hour throughout the project limits.
* (NEW) Route 340 – Asphalt placement from 0.2 miles north of Route 684 to Route 661. Lane closures with flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Secondary Roads
* (NEW) Route 607 – Asphalt placement from Route 759 to 1.7 miles north of Route 759. Lane closures with flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

WARREN COUNTY
Interstate 66
* Mile marker 0 to 13, eastbound and westbound – Sign repair, litter and debris removal. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Primary Roads
* Route 340/522 (Winchester Road) – Traffic signal upgrade at the I-66 eastbound and westbound ramps. Motorists are urged to drive with caution in the work zone.
* Route 340/522 (North Fork Bridge project) – Bridge construction west of Route 340/522 to new North Fork bridge. Speed limit reduced to 25 mph. New traffic pattern in effect. Road construction with possible lane closures, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Route 340/522 from Guard Hill Road to Route 55. Motorists should expect delays and use extreme caution when traveling in the work zone.

Secondary Roads
* Route 609 (Ritenhour Hollow Road) – Partially collapsed pipe overflow, from Route 627 (Reliance Road) to Route 736 (Molly Campbell Lane). Road closed for undetermined amount of time. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes.
* Route 627 – Surface treatment from Route 340/522 to Frederick County line. Lane closures with flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
* Route 721 (Fellows Drive) – Road reconstruction from Route 638 (Howellsville Road) to Young’s Drive. Periodic single-lane traffic, flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.


CLARKE COUNTY
Primary Roads

Vegetation management may occur district wide on various routes.
