TRAFFIC ALERT FOR WEEK OF JUNE 1 – 5, 2009
Highway work zones in the Staunton District

The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY
Interstate 64

Road closed from Mar. 30 to Nov. 13. Suggested detour: Northbound traffic take Route 608 to Route 778 (Knightly Mill Road) to Route 775 to Route 774. Southbound traffic take reverse of northbound detour.
* Route 794 (Sangers Lane), eastbound and westbound – Bridge over Christians Creek, from Route 792 (Basley Road) to Route 642 (Barren Ridge Road). Bridge replacement. Road closed, 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week, April 27 to Dec. 16. Suggested detour: Westbound traffic, take Route 792 south to Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) east to Route 642 north to Route 794. * Route 340 (Jeremy’s Run) – Bridge work. Periodic lane closures. Relocation of Route 700 intersection with Route 340. Traffic will be re-routed to new roadway north of existing Jeremy’s Run Bridge. Use extreme caution as motorists become acquainted with new traffic pattern. Work hours will be from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. Flagger traffic control. The speed limit will remain 45 miles per hour throughout the project limits.

Secondary Roads
* Route 662 – Jeremy’s Run bridge construction with Route 340 intersection. Periodic lane closures Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., flagger traffic control.

* Mile marker 7, eastbound and westbound – Bridges over Shenandoah River. Bridge painting. Shoulder closures, 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week. Occasional lane closures possible. Estimated completion is July 2009.

Primary Roads
* Route 340/522 (North Fork Bridge project) – Bridge construction from Route 637 and Route 55 (Strasburg Road). Speed limit reduced to 25 mph. Possible lane closures, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Route 340/522 from Guard Hill Road to the new bridge structure. Possible intermittent traffic delays, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on West Duck Street from Route 340/522 to Rugby Street. Motorists should expect delays and use extreme caution when traveling in the work zone.

Secondary Roads
* Route 631 (William Vincent Road, Browntown) – Pipe installation, grading and paving from Route 631 to Route 613 (Browntown Road, Bentonville). Flagger traffic control, Tuesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is June 2009.
* (NEW) Route 639 – Railroad crossing installation. Road closed week of June 8. Traffic control signs posted.
