TRAFFIC ALERT FOR WEEK OF MAY 4 – 8, 2009
Highway work zones in the Staunton District

The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY
Interstate 64

* Route 340 (Jeremy’s Run) – Bridge work. Periodic lane closures. Relocation of Route 700 intersection with Route 340. Traffic will be re-routed to new roadway north of existing Jeremy’s Run Bridge. Use extreme caution as motorists become acquainted with new traffic pattern. Work hours will be from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. Flagger traffic control. The speed limit will remain 45 miles per hour throughout the project limits.

* Route 340/522 (North Fork Bridge project) – Bridge construction from Route 637 and Route 55 (Strasburg Road). Speed limit reduced to 25 mph. Possible lane closures, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Route 340/522 from Guard Hill Road to the new bridge structure. Possible intermittent traffic delays, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on West Duck Street from Route 340/522 to Rugby Street.
