TRAFFIC ALERT FOR WEEK OF APRIL 6 – 10, 2009
Highway work zones in the Staunton District

The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY
Interstate 64

Sixth Street closed for sanitary sewer replacement, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is November, 2011.

* Route 704 – Bridge over I-81, .6 mile east of Route 11. Bridge deck maintenance. Single lane traffic, flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
* Route 704 (Cecil Wampler Road) in conjunction with Route 679 work – Sewer line installation from Route 679 (Pleasant Valley Road) to Route 704 (Cecil Wampler Road). Occasional blasting may occur. Shoulder closure. Single lane traffic controlled by flaggers. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Route 11 (Main Street, Toms Brook) – Signal reconstruction on flashing signals at Route 11 and Route 653/1502 (Creek Road/Hillcrest Road). Intermittent lane closures Monday to Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Estimated activation of new flashing signals is late March.
* Route 211, eastbound and westbound (in conjunction with I-81 work) – Bridge work. Possible single lane traffic. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Secondary Roads
* (NEW) Route 725 (Morning Star Road, Hepners/Morning Star) – Bridge deck replacement. Road closed. Suggested detour: Southbound traffic take Route 263 west to Route 611 south to Route 726 (Hepner Road). Northbound traffic take reverse of southbound detour. Estimated completion is mid May, 2009.

FREDERICK COUNTY
Interstate 81

* Papermill Road (Winchester) – Road reconstruction from .06 mile south of Weems Lane to .28 mile north of South Pleasant Valley. Suggested alternate route: Weems Lane to Roosevelt Boulevard to Papermill Road. Monday to Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

PAGE COUNTY
Primary Roads
* Route 340 (Jeremy’s Run) – Bridge work. Periodic lane closures. Relocation of Route 700 intersection with Route 340. Traffic will be re-routed to new roadway north of existing Jeremy’s Run Bridge. Use extreme caution as motorists become acquainted with new traffic pattern. Work hours will be from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. Flagger traffic control. The speed limit will remain 45 miles per hour throughout the project limits.

Secondary Roads
* Route 662 – Jeremy’s Run bridge construction with Route 340 intersection. Periodic lane closures Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with flagger traffic control.

WARREN COUNTY
Interstate 66
* Mile marker 0 to 13, eastbound and westbound – Litter and debris removal. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Primary Roads
* Route 340/522 (North Fork Bridge project) – Bridge construction from Route 637 and Route 55 (Strasburg Road). Speed limit reduced to 25 mph. Motorists should be alert for lane closures at the North Fork Bride project located on Route 340/522 (Front Royal). Right southbound lane closed. Traffic restricted to one southbound lane and one northbound lane, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Travelers going to Front Royal, exiting Interstate 66 at exit 6 onto Route 340/522, should
expect delays. Suggested alternative route to Front Royal: from I-66 (Linden) take exit 13 to Route 79, head west on Route 55. From Interstate 81 (Strasburg) take exit 296 and travel east on Route 55. West Duck Street closed from Route 340/522 to Rugby Street, Monday to Friday. Suggested detour: from Route 340/522 to Route 55 west to Forrest Hill Drive to West Duck Street. Motorists should expect delays and use extreme caution when traveling in the work zone.
