ROUTE 629 CLOSES FOR FURTHER SINKHOLE WORK IN SHENANDOAH COUNTY

STAUNTON – Route 629 (Oranda Road) is closed between Route 630 and Route 660 in the Oranda area of Shenandoah County. The closure began at 2 p.m. on June 8 due to a sinkhole located on the south side of the road.

This road was closed last week for a sink hole on the opposite side of the road.

The road will remain closed until repairs are complete. All work is weather permitting.

Motorists may take the following detour: Route 660 (Timberlake Road) to Route 622 (Clary Road) to Route 629 (Oranda Road).

The VDOT Staunton District serves Frederick, Shenandoah, Clarke, Warren, Page, Rockingham, Augusta, Highland, Rockbridge, Alleghany and Bath counties.

Traffic alerts and traveler information can be obtained by dialing 511. In areas where 511 is unavailable, dial 1-866-MY511VA (866-695-1182) (TTY/TDD users, call 711). Traffic alerts and traveler information also are available at 511Virginia.org.

Highway safety is everyone’s responsibility. Virginia’s highway safety partnership — the Virginia Department of Transportation, Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles and Virginia State Police — challenges you to help prevent highway fatalities. Buckle up. Avoid distractions. Share the road. Drive drug- and alcohol-free. Obey speed limits.
