MULTI-VEHICLE ACCIDENT CAUSES DELAYS ON I-81 NORTHBOUND IN NORTHERN AUGUSTA COUNTY

STAUNTON – (1:45 p.m.) A multi-vehicle accident at mile marker 235 in Augusta County has the left northbound lane closed. Earlier this afternoon both northbound lanes were closed. The accident location is just south of exit 235 at Route 256 in the Weyers Cave area. Traffic is backed up for at least eight miles.

Motorist should use extreme caution in this area and expect significant delays. Crews are on site working on clean-up but the Virginia Department of Transportation Staunton Traffic Operations Center does not have a projection when the left lane will be reopened.

The VDOT Staunton District serves Frederick, Shenandoah, Clarke, Warren, Page, Rockingham, Augusta, Highland, Rockbridge, Alleghany and Bath counties.

Traffic alerts and traveler information can be obtained by dialing 511. In areas where 511 is unavailable, dial 1-866-MY511VA (866-695-1182) (TTY/TDD users, call 711). Traffic alerts and traveler information also are available at 511Virginia.org.
