MOTORISTS URGED TO PLAN TRAVEL AROUND WINTER WEATHER

STAUNTON – With the possibility of freezing rain entering the Shenandoah Valley on Saturday night and Sunday morning, the Virginia Department of Transportation is urging travelers to be aware of possible icy roads.  VDOT crews will be out treating the roads, however motorists are advised not to travel during the storm.

Crews will be out monitoring the roads prior to the storm and will be applying chemicals to the road surface once freezing weather begins.

Primary roads in Augusta County and in Frederick County and the interstate system receive anti-icing treatments a day before to any significant winter event that is not preceded with rain.  VDOT and contractor crews will be out today applying anti-icing chemicals.
