I-81 SOUTHBOUND LANE REOPENS IN AUGUSTA COUNTY IN BRUSH FIRE AREA

STAUNTON – All lanes have reopened southbound on Interstate 81 near mile marker 230 in the area of several small brush fires that occurred this afternoon. Previously the right southbound lane was closed in this location.

As of 4:35 p.m. today there was a five mile back up in the southbound lanes plus significant traffic congestion on Route 11, which parallels I-81 in this area.

This location is between exit 227 at Route 612 in Verona and exit 235 at Route 256 in Weyers Cave.
Also reopened is Route 616 (Fort Defiance Road) near Route 11, which was closed earlier today due to the brush fires.
Motorists should use extreme caution when traveling through this area and expect delays.

Traffic alerts and traveler information can be obtained by dialing 511. In areas where 511 is unavailable, dial 1-800-578-4111. (TTY/TDD users, call 711). Traffic alerts and traveler information also are available at 511Virginia.org.
