I-64 REMAINS CLOSED ON AFTON MOUNTAIN
All traffic detoured onto Route 250; expect significant delays

STAUNTON – Interstate 64 is closed on Afton Mountain due to a crash in the westbound lanes that spread debris across the roadway near milepost 99 at the mountain’s summit. The Virginia Department of Transportation has detours in place – eastbound traffic is being shifted to Route 250 at Exit 96 near Waynesboro, westbound traffic is detoured onto Route 250 at Exit 107 at Crozet.

The highway is expected to remain closed for several hours as emergency crews work to clean up debris from the crash, which involved a tractor-trailer truck. Motorists are advised to avoid I-64 in that area and to expect delays on Route 250 between Waynesboro and Crozet.

Motorists can get real-time updates about traffic conditions and weather by dialing 511 from any telephone in Virginia. Before you leave check 511 on the Web at www.511Virginia.org. Information includes traffic conditions, weather forecasts and live traffic cameras on many major highways.
