I-64 CLOSED ON AFTON MOUNTAIN
Crash shuts down all westbound lanes; emergency crews on the scene

STAUNTON – Interstate 64 is closed on Afton Mountain due to a crash in the westbound lanes near milepost 99 at the mountain’s summit. Fog is limiting visibility on the mountain and emergency responders have closed the highway westbound to minimize the danger of additional crashes. Eastbound traffic is moving slowly and delays are reported due to the low visibility.

At this hour it is not known how long the highway will be closed. Motorists are advised to avoid I-64 in that area and to expect delays on Route 250 between Waynesboro and Crozet.

For real-time information about traffic conditions and weather dial 511 from any telephone in Virginia. Before you leave check 511 on the Web at www.511Virginia.org. Information includes traffic conditions, weather forecasts and live traffic cameras on many major highways.
