BOTH NORTHBOUND LANES CLOSED ON I-81 IN ROCKINGHAM COUNTY
STAUNTON – (5:45 p.m.) A tractor trailer accident on Interstate 81 has closed both northbound lanes at mile marker 247. Backups on I-81 are approximately five-miles. This location is at exit 247 at Route 33 in the Harrisonburg/Valley Mall area.
Congestion is occurring on Route 11 due to heavy traffic getting off of I-81 at exit 235 (Weyers Cave).
Route 33 westbound is also closed due to minor bridge damage.
No estimate for reopening the lanes has been provided by the Virginia Department of Transportation Staunton Traffic Operations Center.
Motorists should drive with caution and expect delays in this area.
