RIBBON CUTTING HELD FOR RESORT DRIVE IMPROVEMENTS
The Commonwealth Transportation Board awarded the $5.4 million contract on March 8, 2007 to General Excavation Inc. The two-mile long project includes additional travel lanes, including turn lanes and a grass median and serves as the gateway to the Massanutten resort and residential area.
A single barrel box culvert was constructed to run under the new roadway to facilitate the flow of golf carts, eliminating a hazardous traffic condition of carts navigating across two lanes of heavy traffic. On the southwest side of the box culvert, a decorative segmental retaining wall was installed.
Besides enhancing access to the Massanutten area the new roadway provides increased overall safety to travelers by improving driver visibility through the reduction of curves and hills.
