I-81 NORTHBOUND LANE IN ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY TO REMAIN CLOSED UNTIL APPROXIMATELY 2PM TODAY
Officials at the scene say the left lane will remain closed until approximately 2 p.m. today.
This location is between exit 191 at the I-64/I-81 interchange and exist 195 at Route 11 north of Lexington in the Timber Ridge area. Motorists should expect significant delays in this area.
According to the Virginia Department of Transportation Staunton Traffic Management Center, as of 10:20 a.m. today, traffic is backed up four miles. TMC operators say that earlier this morning from about 3 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. both northbound lanes were closed as crews tried to move the tanker before the fuel could be totally removed. At present the tanker remains at the site and the fuel is currently being unloaded, with only the right lane open to traffic.
