MAKE ROOM FOR SNOW PLOWS
Crews continue to plow and treat roads as snow moves eastward
RICHMOND, Virginia – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is advising motorists to avoid unnecessary travel today as snow continues to across much of central and eastern Virginia.
Temperatures will drop throughout the day, meaning road conditions could worsen for the evening commute. Additionally, due to the low temperatures forecast for tonight, roads may refreeze to create icy travel conditions on Thursday morning.
.VDOT crews continue to plow and treat roads, and motorists are reminded to slow down and give plows the right of way as they work to clear snow. When driving during winter weather, it’s important for motorists to keep a safe distance from other vehicles and allow extra time to reach their destination.
Current road conditions are available at www.511virginia.org, through the free mobile app or by phone. Once snow accumulations reach approximately two inches, the location of many snow plows can be found online via VDOT’s Snow Plow Tracker. The number of trucks being tracked can vary depending on the region and weather event. VDOT’s Customer Service Center staff can take reports of severe road conditions and answer questions around the clock at 1-800-FOR-ROAD (367-7623).
Note: VDOT clears all state-maintained roads. Incorporated cities and towns clear their own streets, as do Arlington and Henrico counties.
