2013 VIRGINIA DBE TRANSPORTATION TRAINING SYMPOSIUM
“Paving the Way to Prosperity”
RICHMOND – Secretary of Transportation Sean T. Connaughton opened the 2013 “Paving the Way to Prosperity” Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Conference on Thursday, June 27.
“VDOT was proud to join the Transportation DBE Advisory Committee in hosting this event,” said Grindly Johnson, Chief of Administration for VDOT. “The event featured training workshops and a prime/DBE matchmaking event that helps bring people together, create business opportunities and jobs across Virginia.”
The two-day training event, awards program and matchmaking session was held at the Short Pump Hilton in Richmond and designed to provide educational workshops, recognize outstanding DBEs and provide network opportunities between DBE firms and prime contractors and consultants that will lead to more work on highway related contracts in the future.
Approximately 250 individuals attended the DBE training symposium, which represented more than 100 organizations representing prime contractors and consultants, DBE firms and government agencies. The symposium’s sole purpose was to assist minority-owned and women-owned firms in positioning themselves to win contracts that will result from the commonwealth’s historic long-term sustainable transportation funding bill that was passed earlier this year.
The DBE Awards Program, held Friday, June 28, recognized the following firms for outstanding performance and participation in the DBE Program: Outstanding DBE Contractor of the Year, Arthur Construction Company; Outstanding DBE Consultant of the Year, Business Transformation Group; Outstanding DBE Materials Firm of the Year, Rojas Larco Trucking, Inc.; Outstanding DBE Supplier of the Year, Morgan Oil Corporation; DBE Rookie of the Year, Axis Road Markings, Inc.; DBE Trailblazer Award, K&M Enterprises, Inc.; Prime Contractor of the Year, The Lane Construction Corporation; and the Prime Consultant of the Year, AECOM.
