REVISED 2009-2014 DRAFT SIX-YEAR TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM AVAILABLE ON WEB
$2.6 billion reduction in overall transportation funding will result in $1.3 billion in cuts to highway and transit projects with $400 million in additional reductions necessary

RICHMOND – The Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) is completing an unusual mid-year revision of the Fiscal Years 2009-2014 Six-Year Improvement Program in response to the declining transportation revenues. The revision details $1.3 billion in anticipated cuts to highway, public transit, rail, bicycle, and pedestrian projects and programs in response to a $2.6 billion reduction in overall state and federal transportation revenue.

Additional reductions to the program are likely to follow as the recently announced December revenue reduction is addressed. Reductions to administrative programs and other services will account for more than $1 billion in cost cutting measures.

The draft program and lists of projects impacted by these reductions will be available online at VirginiaDOT.org and DRPT.Virginia.gov at 10 a.m. on Dec. 18.

The revised fiscal years 2009-2014 program will be presented to the CTB during its combined workshop and meeting on Thursday, Dec. 18. The meeting will start at 10 a.m. in the Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT’s) auditorium at 1221 East Broad Street in Richmond. Following the CTB meeting, an overview of the significant elements of the program changes and lists of project cuts by VDOT district will be posted on the Web sites.

Public Input Sought on Revisions

The revised program will be available for public review via the Web and during a series of five public hearings to be held around the commonwealth. Lists of specific projects and changes from the current program will be available at each public hearing, at www.VDOT.Virginia.gov and www.DRPT.Virginia.gov and at VDOT district and residency offices prior to the hearing.

Please attend the hearing that is most convenient for you. The districts of focus for each meeting are listed after the meeting location.
