EXIT AND LANE CLOSURES BEGIN WEDNESDAY NIGHT AT INTERSTATE 81’S EXIT 150 PROJECT IN BOTETOURT COUNTY

SALEM –Work has been underway to reconstruct the eastern section of the Exit 150 interchange at the intersections of Route 11 and Route 220/220 Alternate. Beginning February 28 at 8 p.m., weather permitting, exit ramp and lane closures will impact traffic throughout the interchange for the next few weeks.

  • On February 28, exit 150A on I-81 northbound will be closed from midnight to 5 a.m.
  • On February 28, a right lane closure will be in place on I-81 northbound from mile marker 149.7 to 150.2 leading up to exit 150A from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning for signage installation. When the right lane opens at 5 a.m., traffic using exit 150A will only be able to turn right onto Route 11 southbound. Drivers requiring access to Route 220 Alternate will need to use exit 150B.
  • In addition, the right through lane on Route 220 southbound will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., for pavement markings and signal operations. This closure will remain in place for approximately two weeks or until the median barrier is constructed between exit 150A and Route 220 southbound.
  • Once the new median barrier is constructed, the existing median barrier will be removed and replaced with a new raised concrete median between Route 220 northbound and southbound. This will require nighttime lane closures, Sunday through Thursday, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
