VDOT TO HOLD HEARING ON IMPROVEMENTS TO NORTH MAIN STREET AT ROUTE 460 IN BLACKSBURG
SALEM — On Thursday, August 31, from 5 to 7 p.m., the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will hold a design public hearing to discuss a project to enhance safety by constructing a restricted crossing U-turn (R-CUT) along Route 460 at the intersection of North Main Street and Farmingdale Lane in Blacksburg.
The hearing will be held at the Blacksburg Community Center located at 725 Patrick Henry Drive in Blacksburg.
The project will modify the intersection to add and lengthen turn lanes along Route 460 and restrict left turns from North Main Street and Farmingdale Lane onto Route 460. The new design should improve safety by eliminating left turns, the primary turning movement where crashes have occurred at this intersection. The project also includes improvements to facilitate U-turns on Route 460.
Closing the connection of Bishop Road to Route 460 also is being considered as part of the project.
The design public hearing is being held to provide an opportunity for citizens or organizations to give input on the project and will be held in an “open-house” format. VDOT representatives will be present to discuss the project and answer questions.
Comments about the project may be submitted at the hearing or until September 10, 2017, by mail to Mr. Tim Dowdy, Virginia Department of Transportation, 731 Harrison Avenue, Salem, VA 24153. E-mail comments can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please reference “North Main Street Blacksburg Public Comment” in the subject heading.
