TRAFFIC ALERT: LEFT LANE OF SOUTHBOUND INTERSTATE 77 AT MILE MARKER 14 OPEN IN CARROLL COUNTY
Detour removed but right lane to remain closed, possibly for days

SALEM – The left lane of southbound Interstate 77 in Carroll County at mile marker 14 is now open, and the detour that had been in place at exit 14 (Hillsville) for southbound traffic has been removed.

Both southbound I-77 lanes had been closed since yesterday morning when damage to the I-77 bridge over Route 58 was discovered.  Highway workers were able to make some repairs to the bridge’s expansion joint and open the left lane tonight once concrete had set.

Before the right lane can open, more repairs to the bridge joint will have to be completed.  These repairs will require new steel.

Depending on the availability of materials, it could be several days before the repairs are completed and the right lane can be opened.
