VDOT’S SALEM DISTRICT REACHING OUT TO SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS
SALEM – The Virginia Department of Transportation Salem District is hosting a series of small-business fairs in May to show local vendors how they can work with VDOT and other state agencies. The Commonwealth of Virginia is committed to making at least 42 percent of its discretionary purchases with small, women-owned and minority-owned (SWaM) businesses. Over the past several years, these vendors have benefited from more than $5 billion in annual purchases.
The open-house workshops are designed to show the benefits of becoming a certified Small or Micro Business in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Attendees can learn how to market their products and services to state agencies, and get assistance with required registration and certification procedures.
The small-business fairs take place from 1 to 4 p.m. at the following locations:
• Tuesday, May 12 – VDOT Bedford Residency Office, 2022 East Lynchburg-Salem Turnpike, Bedford, Va. 24523
• Tuesday, May 19 – VDOT Christiansburg Residency Office, 105 Cambria Street, Christiansburg, Va. 24068
• Thursday, May 21 – VDOT Salem District Office, 731 Harrison Avenue, Salem, Va. 24153
Business owners can get more information about the fairs, including documentation they will need, by contacting VDOT District Procurement Manager Michele Thompson at 540-375-3557 or Michele.Thompson@VDOT.Virginia.gov.
