TRAFFIC ALERT: ROAD AND LANE CLOSURES ON THREE PROJECTS SCHEDULED TO BEGIN NEXT WEEK IN BOTETOURT COUNTY

SALEM – Drivers will see various lane closures and road work happening in Botetourt County as several projects begin next week.

ROUTE 220 ALTERNATE
Lane closures will be in place for milling, paving and pavement marking operations on a section of Route 220 Alternate from the Roanoke County line to the truck weighing scales. Work will be performed Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday through Thursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning. Motorists should watch for signs and use caution in the work zone. The work is expected to be completed in September.

ROUTE 460 GUARDRAIL UPGRADES
Existing guardrails will be removed and new guardrails will be installed on Route 460 eastbound between Blue Ridge and the Bedford/Botetourt County line. Single lane closures may be in place while work is being performed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The work is expected to be complete in October.

BRIDGE PAINTING
The following bridges in Botetourt County will be cleaned and painted and require alternating lane closures during daytime hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday through Sunday. Work is expected to be completed in September.

• Route 779 (Catawba Road) over Catawba Creek
• Route 636 (Glade Creek Road) over Mill Creek    
• Route 640 (Lithia Road) over Back Creek.

This work is weather and work schedule permitting. Drivers are encouraged to watch for signs, flagging operations, and message boards and to use caution as they travel through and around the work zones.
