TRAFFIC ALERT: POTHOLE REPAIR AND SIGN INSTALLATION TO IMPACT TRAFFIC ON INTERSTATE 581 NEXT WEEK

SALEM – Interstate 581 will have lane and ramp closures in place during nighttime hours next week as part of a sign installation project and a pothole repair on a bridge in Roanoke city.

ELM AVENUE AREA - WORK POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER 
This project will be re-scheduled.

On Sunday, September 13, Monday, September 14, and Tuesday, September 15, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning, lane and ramp closures will be in place for a pot hole repair on the bridge. A right and center lane closure will be in place on northbound I-581 and the on-ramp from Elm Avenue to I-581 will be closed and. Traffic will be detoured to Williamson Road to merge back onto I-581 northbound between Kimball and Rutherford Avenue.

HERSHBERGER ROAD
From Monday, September 14 through Wednesday, September 16, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the installation of sign foundations on Hershberger Road at the I-581 northbound interchange will reduce the length of the on and off ramps to I-581 northbound. Crews will be working on the shoulder in front of the on-ramp to I-581 northbound which will narrow the merging lanes onto I-581. Drivers will need to reduce their speed as the merge into traffic on Hershberger Road from the I-581 northbound exit ramp. There will be less room to merge into oncoming traffic.
