TRAFFIC ALERT: INTERSTATE 81 LANE CLOSURE AND HEAVY TRAFFIC CONTINUES TO CAUSE CONGESTION NEAR ROANOKE

SALEM – The right lane of Interstate 81 in Roanoke County at mile marker 144 near Roanoke is closed.  The left lane is open.

Earlier today, traffic was being detoured off southbound I-81 at exit 146 (Hollins) due to police activities closing southbound I-81, but that detour has been removed now that the left southbound lane is open.  Several miles of congestion on southbound I-81 are reported.

On northbound I-81 at mile marker 144, ten miles of congestion also are reported due to heavy traffic volume.  All northbound lanes are open, but congestion is present.

Drivers should expect delays around Roanoke or seek alternate routes.

For updates on the lane closure, visit www.511Virginia.org.
