TRAFFIC ALERT: ROUTE 40 DETOUR IN PLACE IN FRANKLIN COUNTY DUE TO OVERTURNED TRACTOR-TRAILER

SALEM – An overturned tractor-trailer hauling crushed cars has blocked Route 40 east of Rocky Mount in Franklin County about six miles west of the Pittsylvania County line.  The eastbound lane and the westbound lane are closed.

Traffic is being detoured around the closure onto Route 662 (Old Salem Church Road) and Route 819 to return to Route 40.

At 6:30 p.m., responders estimate that it could be several more hours before Route 40 reopens.
