MANY ROADS STILL CLOSED DUE TO FLOOD DAMAGE IN SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA
Route 58 on Lovers Leap Mountain still reduced to one lane

SALEM – As of 3 p.m., about 40 roads remain closed in southwest Virginia due to flooding impacts.  As flood waters receded today, the Virginia Department of Transportation worked to assess and repair damage.

East and westbound Route 58 traffic is still using a single open lane on a three-mile section between Route 640 (Central Academy Road) and the scenic overlook atop Lovers Leap Mountain.  Drivers should expect delays on Route 58 as pilot trucks and flaggers are controlling traffic around the clock.

For other specific road closure locations, VDOT provides the most up-to-date information available about flooded roads at www.511Virginia.org.  To access the list of flooded roads, look for the text views section of the site and search under road conditions.

VDOT’s Salem District includes the counties of Bedford, Botetourt, Carroll, Craig, Floyd, Franklin, Giles, Henry, Montgomery, Patrick, Pulaski and Roanoke.
