SALEM DISTRICT: DRIVERS SHOULD WATCH FOR SLICK SPOTS
Below-freezing temperatures will create icy roads overnight and tomorrow morning

SALEM – Drivers should expect most roads in the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Salem District to be mostly wet with isolated slick spots this afternoon.  Motorists may encounter snowy or icy patches on some routes particularly in the higher elevations and shady spots and on bridges, overpasses and ramps.

In Giles County, snow has accumulated on some roads creating moderate conditions.  Crews are continuing to work on plowing and treating roads in this county.  Drivers should expect snow covered or icy roads in some locations in Giles County.

VDOT crews and contractors will be monitoring conditions tonight to treat icy roads with salt or abrasives.  Drivers are cautioned that below freezing temperatures are expected to create icy road conditions tonight and tomorrow morning.

Road-condition information is available by calling 511 or visiting www.511Virginia.org.

The Salem District includes the counties of Bedford, Botetourt, Carroll, Craig, Floyd, Franklin, Giles, Henry, Montgomery, Patrick, Pulaski and Roanoke.
