TRAFFIC ALERT: INTERSTATE 581 PAVING TO RESUME TONIGHT IN ROANOKE

SALEM – Beginning at 9 p.m. tonight, May 31, a contractor will resume paving on southbound Interstate 581 in Roanoke between Elm Avenue and Orange Avenue.  

The work taking place tonight is necessary to complete work that was interrupted on Thursday, May 30, due to an equipment breakdown.  Crews were paving on I-581 last night starting at 9 p.m. and had planned to reopen all lanes of by 6 a.m. this morning, but were delayed reopening the lanes on I-581 due to the equipment breakdown.

Tonight, a single lane closure will be in place on southbound I-581 beginning at 9 p.m. and a second lane will be closed at 10 p.m. Weather permitting, the work is expected to be completed at 2 a.m.

Paving on southbound I-581 will continue, Sunday through Thursday, beginning June 2 and will be complete on Friday, June 7.  The work will take place from 9 p.m. each night until 6 a.m. the following morning.
