TRAFFIC ALERT: TRAFFIC ON SOUTHBOUND INTERSTATE 581 IN ROANOKE TO BE IMPACTED THIS MORNING
Southbound right lane and Valley Boulevard ramp onto southbound I-581 will remain closed

SALEM – Clean up from a multi-vehicle accident that occurred yesterday on Interstate 581 at mile marker 3 in Roanoke has continued all night and will continue to impact traffic for the morning commute today.

As of 4:30 a.m., southbound I-581 is closed between Hershberger Road and Orange Avenue.  Traffic is still being detoured onto Hershberger Road at exit 3E or 3W.

Sometime after 5:15 a.m. this morning, accident responders anticipate the southbound left and southbound center lane of I-581 will reopen.

The southbound right lane at mile marker 3 and the ramp leading from Valley View Boulevard onto southbound I-581 will remain closed this morning.  The pavement on the southbound right lane and the southbound I-581 on-ramp has been damaged and will require repairs or replacement before they can be reopened.

The detour on northbound I-581 was removed last night just before 11:30 p.m.  Northbound I-581 traffic is no longer being impacted due to accident clean up.
