SALEM – On Sunday, Oct. 20, a section of Route 114 (Pepper’s Ferry Road) in Christiansburg will be closed to install a new railroad crossing near the New River Valley Mall. This work is part of the Route 114 widening project.

Weather permitting, the closure will be in place from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. between Majestic Drive and Marshall Drive.

Detour signs will be in place to direct motorists.

• Eastbound traffic will be directed right onto Majestic Drive, right onto Windsor Drive, right onto Berkshire Drive, right onto Gibson Drive, left onto Cambria Street and then a left at the traffic signal onto Route 460 business (North Franklin Street).

• Westbound traffic will take the Route 460 business exit, make a right onto Cambria Street, right onto Gibson Drive, left on Berkshire Drive, left onto Windsor Drive, left onto Majestic Drive and then a left onto Route 114 (Peppers Ferry Road).

The $24.5 million widening project is scheduled to be complete in fall 2014. The project will widen Route 114 at the New River Valley Mall from two to four lanes and will improve access management and congestion.
