TRAFFIC ALERT: A PORTION OF ROUTE 220 BUSINESS IN ROCKY MOUNTY CLOSED DUE WATER TO A MAIN BREAK

SALEM –   A portion of north and southbound Route 220 Business in the Town of Rocky Mount is closed due to a water main break that occurred overnight near the Pigg River bridge. The break caused a portion of the material under the roadway to wash away making it unsafe for drivers.

Crews have worked overnight to direct traffic and are in the process of establishing a detour. Message boards will be in place to alert drivers of the closure.

At this time, the road will be closed for at least one week.

Drivers are encouraged to call 511 or visit www.511Virginia.org for the latest information.
