SALEM —The Virginia Department of Transportation will hold a design public hearing on a proposed project to replace the northbound and southbound Interstate 81 bridges over the New River and modify the interchange at exit 105 (Radford). The 1.677-mile project extends from 0.733 mile south of the Montgomery/Pulaski County line to 0.944 mile north of the county line.

The hearing will be held on Tuesday, September 25, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the City of Radford Municipal Building located at 10 Robertson Street in Radford.

This hearing is being held to provide an opportunity for citizens or organizations to give VDOT input on the proposed project.  The hearing will be held in an open-house format with no formal presentation given.  VDOT representatives will be present to discuss the proposed project and to answer questions.

The project includes replacing the northbound and southbound bridges and approaches on I-81 at the New River and replacing the Route 232 bridge over I-81. The project also includes improving all acceleration and deceleration lanes entering or exiting from I-81 and realigning the intersection of Route 605 and the service road.
