SALEM— The Virginia Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing on a proposed project to improve the Interstate 581 interchange with Valley View Boulevard in the City of Roanoke.  The project will involve completing the partial interchange at I-581’s exit 3C.    

The hearing will be held on Tuesday, June 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. at William Fleming High School, 3649 Ferncliff Avenue, NW, Roanoke, 24017.

The project will include reconstructing the existing ramps to accommodate future traffic and turning movements, construction of an off-ramp from I-581 southbound onto Valley View Boulevard, construction of an on-ramp from Valley View Boulevard onto I-581 northbound, construction of new auxiliary lanes along I-581 between Valley View Boulevard and Hershberger Road and the widening of the bridge over I-581 that carries Valley View Boulevard.

This hearing is being held to provide an opportunity for citizens or organizations to give VDOT input on the proposed project.  The meeting will be held in an open-house format and VDOT representatives will be present to discuss the proposed project and to answer questions.

Written comments about the proposed I-581/Valley View Interchange improvement project may be submitted at the hearing or until Friday, June 17, 2011 by mail to Mr. Richard L.
