VDOT SCHEDULES PUBLIC HEARING FOR ROUTE 613 (WHITE ROCKS ROAD) DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENT PROJECT IN GILES COUNTY

SALEM—The Virginia Department of Transportation will hold a design public hearing on a proposed project to improve a 1.7-mile section of Route 613 (White Rocks Road) in Giles County.  The section of Route 613 starts at Route 635 (Big Stoney Creek Road) and extends 1.7 miles south.

The hearing will be held on Thursday, Oct. 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Pembroke Fire Department located at 102 Cascade Drive in Pembroke.

This hearing is being held to provide an opportunity for citizens or organizations to give VDOT input on the proposed project.  The hearing will be held in an open-house format with no formal presentation given.  VDOT representatives will be present to discuss the proposed project and to answer questions.
The purpose of this proposed project is to improve roadway drainage by replacing culvert pipes and widening and stabilizing ditches.  A 1.7-mile section Route 613 would be reconstructed to provide an 18-foot riding surface.

Comments about the proposed project may be submitted at the hearing or until Nov. 6, 2011 by mailing them to Mr. Christopher Price, Project Manager, Virginia Department of Transportation, P.O. Box 3071, Salem, Va., 24153.  Comments also can be emailed to saleminfo@vdot.virginia.gov. Please reference “Route 613 Improvements” in the subject heading.

Anyone requiring special assistance to attend and participate in this hearing may contact Christopher Price at 540-387-5353, 800-367-7623 or TTY/TDD 711.
