VDOT WILL HOLD MEETING ON INTERSTATE 581 AND ELM AVENUE INTERCHANGE IMPROVEMENTS IN ROANOKE
SALEM—The Virginia Department of Transportation will hold a citizen information meeting to discuss proposed plans to improve the interchange at Interstate 581 and Elm Avenue in Roanoke.
The meeting will be held on Thursday, Jan. 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Roanoke Civic Center located at 710 Williamson Road, Roanoke, VA 24016. The meeting will be held in the pre-function area of the Roanoke Special Events Center.
The purpose of this proposed project is to relieve congestion along Elm Avenue and at the northbound and southbound off-ramps which back up onto I-581. The improvements would include adding a turn lane on the exit ramps, widening the Elm Avenue bridge over I-581 and upgrading traffic signals.
Written comments about the project may be submitted at the meeting or until Monday, Jan. 25, 2010 by mail to Mr. Richard L. Caywood, P.E., Virginia Department of Transportation, P.O. Box 3071, Salem, VA 24153. E-mail comments can be sent to saleminfo@VDOT.virginia.gov. Please reference “Elm Avenue Comments” in the subject heading.
