SALEM – With snow in the forecast for southwestern Virginia during the overnight hours on Thursday, Jan.7 and in the early morning hours of Friday, Jan. 8, crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation are gearing up for snow removal.  In advance of the storm, VDOT and contractor crews have pre-treated the interstates and many major roads throughout the region.

Equipment operators will be monitoring road conditions tonight and will start to plow and treat roads when any precipitation begins.  As with any winter weather event, snow plow operators will focus their initial efforts on the interstates and primary roads (those numbered 1-599).

The 12-county VDOT Salem District serves Bedford, Botetourt, Carroll, Craig, Franklin, Floyd, Giles, Henry, Montgomery, Patrick, Pulaski and Roanoke counties.
