TRAFFIC ALERT: ELM AVENUE EXIT RAMP FROM SOUTHBOUND I-581 WILL BE CLOSED WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY NIGHT

SALEM – Beginning at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 11, and Thursday, Aug. 12, the exit ramp from southbound I-581 to Route 24 (Elm Avenue) in Roanoke will be closed.  The exit ramp will remain closed through the overnight hours on Wednesday and Thursday, and will re-open at 5:30 a.m. the following morning.  

Motorists who need to access exit 6, (Elm Avenue) from southbound I-581 will be detoured off southbound I-581 at exit 5 and onto Williamson Road.  

Crews will be patching the bridge deck on the Route 24 (Elm Avenue) bridge over I-581.  Alternating lane closures will be in place on Route 24 from 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.  

Signs and message boards will be in place advising motorists of the lane closures and the detour.
