TRAFFIC ALERT: TRAFFIC SHIFT ON INTERSTATE 77 AT MILE MARKER 23 IN CARROLL COUNTY RESCHEDULED

Work has begun to rehabilitate a pair of bridges on Interstate 77 in Carroll County.  The bridges are located at mile marker 23.6 and carry northbound and southbound I-77 over Route 743 (Pleasant Hill Road).  These bridges are located about 0.6 mile south of the Wythe County line.

Due to rainy weather, the previously announced traffic change for Tuesday, April 21 will be rescheduled.  Sometime next week, a work zone with a barricade wall will be set up on I-77 southbound at mile marker 23.6.  Two lanes of traffic will remain open on southbound I-77, but traffic will be shifted onto the paved shoulder. The speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph.  In addition, shoulder paving on northbound I-77 will be rescheduled for next week.

Motorists are advised to be alert to changing traffic patterns on northbound and southbound I-77 in Carroll County.   In the months ahead, several traffic pattern changes are expected, especially during nighttime hours.
