TRAFFIC ALERT: EXPECT CHANGING TRAFFIC PATTERNS IN INTERSTATE 77 WORK ZONE IN CARROLL COUNTY
Large vehicles will be restricted to the left lane on southbound I-77

SALEM – Traffic patterns in the work zone on southbound Interstate 77 at mile marker 23 in Carroll County will change starting tomorrow night, Thursday, July 9.  Work is underway at this location to rehabilitate a pair of bridges that carry I-77 over Route 743 (Pleasant Hill Road).  These bridges are located about 0.6 mile south of the Wythe County line.

Currently, two lanes of traffic are open on southbound I-77 and wide loads and larger vehicles are using the 16-foot right lane which is split apart from a 12-foot left lane.

Starting tomorrow night, this traffic pattern will be switched and the southbound I-77 lanes will be reconfigured so that wide loads and larger vehicles will need to use a newly created 16-foot left lane which will be split from a 12-foot right lane.  A similar traffic change is planned in the northbound lanes of this I-77 work zone early next week.

The speed limit remains reduced to 45 mph in this work zone.  Drivers face a maximum fine of $500 for speeding in a highway work zone in Virginia.
