TRAFFIC ALERT: EXPECT PERIODIC NIGHTTIME LANE CLOSURES ON I-581 AND ELM AVENUE IN ROANOKE

SALEM – As part of the ongoing work to repair the Elm Avenue bridge over Interstate 581 in Roanoke, the contractor will periodically detour I-581 traffic from passing beneath the bridge during nighttime hours on Wednesday, Sept. 23 and Thursday, Sept. 24.  In addition, through traffic on Elm Avenue will be detoured for short periods (less than one hour) around the bridge onto Tazewell Avenue.

Weather permitting, these traffic impacts on I-581 and Elm Avenue may occur at times between midnight and 5 a.m. each night.

State Police will slow and divert northbound and southbound I-581 traffic periodically onto the ramps using a rolling road block.    Elm Avenue traffic in both directions will be detoured around the bridge.

Detours signs will be in place on Elm Avenue to advise motorists to detour.

Motorists are advised to use caution in the area and expect delays.  For up to the minute traffic information, call 511 or log onto www.511virginia.org.
