BOTH LANES OF SOUTHBOUND INTERSTATE 81 ARE CLOSED IN ROANOKE COUNTY AFTER TRACTOR-TRAILER CRASH
Traffic is being detoured onto Interstate 581 to Peters Creek Road to Route 460

SALEM – Both lanes of southbound Interstate 81 are closed at mile marker 141 in Roanoke County near the Route 419 Interchange after a tractor-trailer crash Friday morning.  In addition, the Route 419 bridge over Interstate 81 is closed in this area.

Currently, traffic on southbound Interstate 81 is being detoured as follows:

Drivers should take southbound I-581 at exit 143

Take southbound Route 117 (Peters Creek Road)

Go right onto Route 460 (Melrose Avenue)

Melrose Avenue will turn into Main Street at the Salem City Limits

Go right onto Route 311 (Thompson Memorial Drive)

Go left to return to I-81 southbound at exit 140

Motorists are advised to use caution in the area and expect delays.  The detour is expected to be in place for several hours. All northbound lanes of Interstate 81 are currently open at mile marker 141.
