COX ROAD BRIDGE REPLACEMENT IN NOTTOWAY COMPLETE
Project finishes on schedule and on budget
SOUTH CHESTERFIELD – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has completed the $8.6 million bridge replacement project on the Cox Road (Business Route 460) bridge over Norfolk Southern Railroad in Nottoway, on schedule and on budget. The bridge is located between Reservation Road and Cedar Run Road. On June 30, crews reopened the road to the approximately 4,000 vehicles that travel through per day. All work is now complete and travel lanes are open.
Construction began in summer 2015 to replace the 86 year old structure. Other improvements included adding cycling and pedestrian accommodations. An adjacent project, constructing an acceleration lane between Cox Road (Business Route 460) and the Route 460 east bypass, was completed a couple of years ago.
“We’re excited to be opening the new bridge within our planned time frame and budget.” says Ron Hobson, P.E., Area Construction Engineer. “Commuters will notice wider, safer bridge that should enhance the flow of traffic in the area, and added space for non-motorized travel.”
