Road closed to through traffic between James River Drive and Old Stage Road

COLONIAL HEIGHTS—The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) closed the Heritage Road (Route 635) bridge over Wall’s Run Creek in Prince George County following a structural inspection earlier today. Bridge inspectors recommended immediately closing the bridge due to rapidly deteriorating wooden support posts. For drivers’ safety, VDOT has closed the road to through traffic between James River Drive (Route 10) and Old Stage Road (Route 609).

“We’ll move quickly to reopen the bridge to traffic,” said Gary Martin, district bridge engineer. “To be safe, drivers should follow the posted detours in the interim.” Mobile message boards and signs are in place to guide drivers through the following detour:

  • Northbound Heritage Road – Take James River Drive (Route 10) east to Old Stage Road (Route 609) south back to Heritage Road (Route 635) north.
  • Southbound Heritage Road – Take Old Stage Road (Route 609) north to James River Drive (Route 10) west back to Heritage Road (Route 635) south.
