VDOT OFF-SITE STORAGE BUILDING FIRE IN CHESTERFIELD COUNTY

COLONIAL HEIGHTS —Around 11:30 a.m. today, Chesterfield County and Colonial Heights fire departments responded to a fire on the Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) Richmond District complex in Chesterfield County. The fire occurred in an off-site storage building on the back of the property. The building contains vehicles, administration files and highway signs. Virginia State Police and fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire. There were no VDOT employees on site prior to the fire and there were no injuries.

“We don’t expect this to hinder our ability to maintain roads or respond to weather events,” said Tom Hawthorne, District Administrator. “Once we’ve assessed the damage, we will begin rebuilding the structure and recovering losses.”
