COLONIAL HEIGHTS—Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Acting Commissioner Greg Whirley approved two contracts last month valued at approximately $632,000 for Richmond area construction and maintenance.

Corman Construction, Inc. of Annapolis Junction, MD was awarded a $255,000 bridge maintenance contract to replace the superstructure on Chester Road over Kingsland Creek (near the intersection with Jefferson Davis Highway- Route 1). The project will detour traffic using Route 1 and Perrymount Rd. (Route 1625). Work is expected to be complete in May 2010.

Richard L. Crowder Construction, Inc. of Petersburg, VA was awarded a $377,000 million contract to reconstruct and improve the intersection of Bradley Bridge Road and Branders Bridge Road. This project will improve the sub-standard curve, widen the existing pavement, and replace the intersection at Bradley Bridge Road. The project will incorporate additional travel lanes, shoulders (including paved bicycle accommodations) and ditches to improve drainage. These improvements will allow easier right turns from Bradley Bridge Road to southbound Branders Bridge Road. Work will be restricted to avoid interrupting school traffic (no work between 5:30 a.m.-9 a.m. and 3 p.m.-6:30 p.m.) The project is expected to be complete in July 2010.
