TRANSPORTATION BOARD APPROVES ONE CENTRAL VIRGINIA CONTRACT VALUED AT $3 MILLION
COLONIAL HEIGHTS—The Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) approved one contract Wednesday valued at approximately $3 million for central Virginia construction and maintenance.
J.L. Kent & Sons Inc. of Spotsylvania was awarded a $3 million contract to make improvements to more than two miles of Pouncey Tract Road (Route 271) in Hanover County between just north of Ashland Road (Route 623) and Rockville Road (Route 622). The project will involve widening and paving the existing shoulders six feet to accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians. In addition, the contractor will upgrade road drainage structures and make adjustments to the road alignment to improve sight distance. Construction will begin in late February 2010 with completion expected in May 2011.
Drivers can expect periodic overnight and daytime detours on Pouncey Tract Road during construction. Residents, businesses and emergency vehicles will continue to have access to properties along Pouncey Tract Road during these detours and throughout construction. VDOT will announce all scheduled detours via local media, variable message signs along Pouncey Tract Road and www.511virginia.org several days prior to implementing the detour.
A public information meeting will be held in mid February to inform the community about this upcoming construction project. The date, time and location of this meeting will be announced in the coming weeks and will be posted at http://www.virginiadot.org/projects/publicinvolvement.asp.
