Upcoming Richmond bridge construction projects

COLONIAL HEIGHTS ― The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is hosting a pre-construction information meeting Tuesday, November 9 to share project information and expected traffic impacts for two upcoming, major Richmond bridge improvement projects: the I-95 Bridges Restoration and the I-64 Shockoe Creek bridge repairs.

The public information meeting will be held at the Greater Richmond Convention Center from 5:30 to 8 p.m. It will be open format with stations where residents can talk one-on-one with VDOT representatives. This flexible format allows participants to arrive whenever their schedule will allow. Free parking will be available in the convention center parking garage for meeting participants.

Both bridge projects will include maintenance and structural improvements, such as lighting repairs, bridge deck replacement and structural reinforcements. Construction has started on the I-95 bridges project and will continue over the next four years in multiple phases. Repairs to the I-64 Shockoe Creek Bridge are expected to take place between spring 2011 and fall 2012. To avoid major traffic disruptions, construction for both projects will occur between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

“VDOT is committed to keeping travelers, residents and businesses informed during these interstate bridge construction projects,” said VDOT Richmond District Administrator Tom Hawthorne. “We will communicate with people through 511, electronic message boards, local media and project web pages.”
