TRANSPORTATION BOARD APPROVES THREE CENTRAL VIRGINIA CONTRACTS VALUED AT $17.2 MILLION
Virginia Construction Co. Inc. of Fredericksburg was awarded an $11.1 million contract to construct 2.7 miles of the John Rolfe Parkway in Henrico County, from just south of West Broad Street to just south of Church Road.
The project will consist of a four-lane divided roadway with turn lanes, curbing, gutters, sidewalks and drainage, as well as improvements to the Pump Road and Church Road intersections.
In addition, traffic signals will be installed where John Rolfe Parkway intersects with Pump, Church and Three Chopt roads.
The traffic signal at John Rolfe Parkway and West Broad Street will be modified to accommodate the new road.
Construction is expected to begin in March 2008 with completion anticipated in late 2010. Henrico County will administer the project.
B.P. Short & Son Paving Co. Inc. of Petersburg was awarded a $3.6 million contract to repave 2.8 miles of Interstate 85 North from just north of the Meherrin River Bridge to mile marker 23 in Brunswick County.
Approximately 11,000 vehicles travel this section of I-85 each day, 22 percent of them truck traffic. Paving is expected to be completed in August 2008.
Blastech Enterprises Inc. of Baltimore, Md., was awarded a $2.5 million contract to make repairs to two bridge structures along Interstate 64:
The two-lane ramp from I-64 West to Staples Mill Road South
The Glenside Drive bridge over I-64
The project includes replacing deteriorated deck joint material, minor structural steel repair, concrete patching to the substructure and cleaning and painting the structural steel.
Periodic overnight lane closures will be required along I-64 to complete this work. Repairs are expected to be completed by November 2008.
