FINAL PAVING UNDERWAY FOR I-66 WIDENING
Daily lane closures extended in off-peak directions

HAYMARKET – With generally lighter summer traffic volumes, the Virginia Department of Transportation will allow some extended lane closures in off-peak directions on I-66 between Route 15 and Prince William Parkway for crews to more efficiently complete final paving on the I-66 widening project.

On eastbound I-66, motorists can expect alternating single-lane closures:

  • Sundays-Thursdays, between 10 a.m. and 4 a.m. the following day
  • Fridays-Saturdays, between 9 p.m. and noon the following day
  • There will be no eastbound daytime closures on Saturdays.

On westbound I-66, motorists can expect alternating single-lane closures:

  • Sundays-Thursdays, between 9 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. the following day
  • Fridays-Saturdays, between 9 p.m. and noon the following day
  • There will be no westbound daytime closures on Saturdays.

Motorists should expect delays and are advised to use alternate routes. VDOT will monitor traffic and make adjustments as necessary to ensure backups are not excessive in either direction.

The I-66 Widening Project will add one regular and one HOV lane in each direction from Route 29 in Gainesville to Route 15 in Haymarket. The $65 million project is scheduled for completion later this summer.

The adjacent I-66 and Route 15 diverging-diamond interchange project is scheduled for completion in fall 2017.
